Pictured are our 3 different dome sizes, 4 meters diameter, 5 meters diameter and 6 meters diameter.
For each dome booking it is advisable to have a space that is clear of overhead lights or obstructions. Discovery Dome is not sound proof so the room cannot be used simultaneously for teaching, waiting or other activities.
For the 6 x 6 meter diameter dome you will need a large room, probably a hall, drama studio, atrium or squash court with at least 7m X 7m floor area and with a height of 3.8m. This dome accommodates @45 students (This varies with age/size of students so please check with us!)
For our 5 x 5 meter diameter dome (accommodates @30 students) you will need a large room, probably a hall, drama studio, atrium or squash court with at least 6m X 6m floor area and a height of 3.4m.
For our 4 x 4 meter diameter dome (accommodates @ 20 students however -This varies with age/size of students so please check with us!). You will need a reasonably large room, possibly a large classroom, a drama studio, or atrium with at least 5m X 5m floor area and a height of 2.8 m.
We may be able to fit our smaller 4 x 4 m dome into a large classroom.
At least one 13 Amp power point is needed to operate Discovery Dome.
Discovery Dome takes approximately 40 minutes to set up and vehicular access is required close to the venue. We need all school security to be aware of our arrival and will need an allocated parking spot if available.
Allow a period of 25 minutes for Discovery Dome to be packed up.
Five minutes is required between shows to reset software.
The planetarium is an inflatable dome. Shoes must be removed before entering the dome.
The shape of the dome is maintained by using a fan to pump air from the outside which creates a small positive pressure on the inside, supporting the light fabric into a dome shape. Ceiling fans or draughts can affect this shape and affect the image projected.
